City profile

Sundsvall is located 395 km north of Stockholm, with a population of approximately 50,000.

Sundsvall is dominated not only by the pulp and paper industry, and the aluminium production, but also by banks, insurance companies, telecommunications administration and a number of large public data-processing centres. The main campus of the newly established Mid Sweden University is also located in the city.

You are never far from the forest, the sea or the open countryside in Sundsvall. There are plenty of places for bathing - in the sea, in lakes or indoor swimming pools, while forests provide the opportunity for walks and excursions.

As for entertainment Sundsvall has as much to offer as any big city. If you enjoy horse racing, for example, Sweden´s fourth largest trotting track, Bergsåker, is situated here. Sundsvall also has cosy pubs and bars, street cafés, discotheques and dance halls. And then there is the annual summer Street Festival, when the city centre becomes the site for one gigantic party.
