Vilnius is the capital of Lithuania, and its largest city, with a population of 560,190.Vilnius was selected as a 2009 European Capital of Culture.

Night-life in Vilnius is in full swing at this time of year, and outdoor bars, restaurants and cafes become very popular during the daytime. Winters can be very cold, with temperatures rarely reaching above freezing.

Vilnius is a cosmopolitan city with diverse architecture. The Old Town in Vilnius was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1994. The Vilnius Castle Complex, a group of defensive, cultural, and religious buildings that includes Gediminas Tower, Cathedral Square, the Royal Palace of Lithuania, and the remains of several medieval castles, is part of the national Museum of Lithuania. Lithuania's largest art collection is housed in the Lithuanian Art Museum.

Aproximately 70000 students attend the many universities located in Vilnius.Concerts, festivals, and exhibitions are held at Sereikik's Park, near Gediminas Tower and Vingis Park.
