Programme profile

The English-language dental medicine program was launched in the academic year 2004/2005. The five-year program is designed to unify the basic and clinical sciences, as it is believed that scientific and professional development cannot be sharply differentiated, but should proceed simultaneously throughout the programme.

In the first three years, students are taught the basic sciences - medical and dental courses - which are the foundation of clinical dentistry. From the second year on, more emphasis is placed on the study of dental diseases and their treatment. The last two years serve as the intensive clinical study of each of the various disciplines of dentistry focusing on the assessment and management of patients. In the final year students participate in elective programs, clinical conferences and hospital-based practices.

Instruction takes place at the departments of the Medical and Dental Faculties. Approximately 30 qualified dentists graduate from the Dental Faculty each year. It also educates specialists in Orthodontics, Paediatric Dentistry, Periodontology, Operative Dentistry and Prosthodontics, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and provides future teachers of dentistry through the Ph.D. programme.
