Programme profile


The students who graduate from Degree Programme in nursing are registered nurses who have competency in health promotion, ethics, nursing decision making, clinical nursing and medication, guidance and education, research and development, management and leadership and societal collaboration.

At the beginning of the programme, the student participates in a real life project in a Nursing Home or Health Centre in Espoo encounters clients and patients. During the second year the student develops his/her investigative approach in different fields of nursing. During the third and fourth year the student will actively search for targets to develop in nursing. In clinical area the student can choose the nursing area that he/she is interested to deepen as the future career choice.

Programme content


Key contents of the degree programme are studies in:

Basic Nursing; Public Health; Women's Health; Mental Health; Paediatric Nursing; Perioperative Nursing; Gerontological Nursing; Medical-Surgical Nursing.

On-the-job learning, i.e. clinical training is an essential part of the programme. On-the-job learning takes place in different types of health care settings. Hospitals and other clinical training places are required to provide supervision at higher education level during the clinical training. The practice can be completed nationally and/or internationally in different caring and nursing settings.

Part of the studies may also be done on an international student exchange.

Though you need to be able to interact with patients in Swedish/Finnish during your first practical training at the end of the first academic year, your skills in either Finnish or Swedish will not be tested in the entrance exam. The university offers lessons in Finnish during your first year
