Programme profile

The joint Bachelor's degree programme in Biological Chemistry is organised and supported by the Faculty of Engineering and natural Sciences at the JKU Linz and the Faculty of Natural Sciences at the University of South Bohemia in Budweis, Czech Republic. The programme not only focuses on competency skills and knowledge transfer in biological sciences, but also builds your international experience and training as a biochemist..

The programme not only incorporates essential areas of chemistry, crucial for overall knowledge in the field, but also addresses an analysis of biological systems as well as areas of biology in which chemical procedures are crucial.

Participants with a proficient knowledge of English have the opportunity to pursue modules of foreign language study. The programme has been designed so that students spend 50% of the programme studying at JKU Linz and 50% in the University of South Bohemia

Programme content

Chemistry: General, organic, inorganic, analytical, and physical chemistry - during class and as part of labs, you will strengthen your base-knowledge understanding in different types of chemistry.

Mathematics and Physics: You will learn about the required mathematical and physical concepts needed for any STEM major, such as differentiation, integration, statistics, Fourier transforms, series expansion, linear algebra, main theorems of thermodynamics, mechanics, and quantum mechanics.

Bioinformatics: How do you analyze biological data? Learn more about the foundations of phylogenetics and sequence analysis.

Biochemistry: You will dive deep into learning about our body's chemical processes to learn more about the building blocks of life.

Molecular Biology: Starting with DNA to RNA to protein: How are biological molecules structured? How do they synthesize? How do they interact with each other)
