Eskilstuna is a city of 60,185 inhabitants, situated in the wealthy Södermanland region.

Eskilstuna remains an important industrial city, with internationally known companies such as Volvo, Assa and Outokumpu present. The recent establishment of Mälardalen University and the growth of the neighbouring city of Västerås, has also given Eskilstuna an academic touch.

The city has a combined zoo and amusement park - Parken Zoo. A total of 19 different nature reserves, which vary in character, from the most urban recreation areas with hiking trails to the more remote and forest-like areas.
