Programme profile

This programme provides students with a wide knowledge in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. You will get a holistic view on life-cycle thinking and material flows in industrial planning and other fields of society.

In your studies you will learn how plants should be planned, automatized and run safely for the environment - minimise environmental impact and methods of cleaning exhaust gases and wastewater as how to plan clean water plants.

Kokkola has the largest concentration of inorganic chemical industries in the northern countries, which gives the students an excellent ground for industrial careers. Graduates usually start their careers as research or development engineers in industrial projects. Some engineers start in production, purchase or sales tasks. National and local environmental authorities need engineers with knowledge of environmental questions.

Programme content

In the specialisation Environmental Chemistry and Technology ,students will gain education in environmental issues like recycling of materials, production of energy, handling of waste-water, cleaning of air, planning of water plants, environmental management and process planning. The unique Chemplant pilot plant is used for learning of new techniques.

The other specialisation is New and Traditional Fuel Production where the students learn about traditional oil refineries, but also about new methods for making renewable bio-fuels.
