Programme profile


This programme is the ideal course for anyone wishing to develop into an international media manager. The programme is taught entirely in English, by professionals from the industry. The international classes, with many different cultures, gives your studies a truly international character.

This programme has been the top-ranked Media programme in Netherlands for the last three years.One of its strengths is that this curriculum includes all the media sectors; music, new media, print and audiovisual media. This ensures you will suitable for a career in all kinds of positions in the media sector, including management or consultancy positions in the media or entertainment sector, or as an event manager.

Programme content


Year 1: you will be introduced to the basic principles underlying the field of the media and entertainment. Topics include market research, the role of the media and types of media, as well as business subjects such as management, consumer psychology, marketing, ethics and business economics. You will obtain practical knowledge working in the university media studio to produce four media productions: an audiovisual production, a print media production, a music production and a new media production.

Year 2: the programme focuses on media managers, including the financial and operational sides of the media business and the management of media productions. Experience marketing, concept development, storytelling and brand management are also included

Year 3: focus on the strategic aspects of management. You will work on a media assignment from an external company. You will follow a number of minors in this year. A minor is your chance to specialise in the direction of your choice: this can be taken in another country>

In your third year, you will have the option to specialise by taking a number of minors: these are electives in which you focus on a specific subject or expand your knowledge by taking an additional subject. This allows you to truly take charge of your education by ‘customising’ your course.

You can take these minors in Stenden or at the Stenden campus located in South Africa. You can also choose from minors offered by other courses and universities of applied sciences:

Music Management:
You specialise in all aspects of music exploitation and learn what it’s like to earn a living working in the music industry.

Intrapreneurship: During this minor you gain practical experiences which help you strengthen your professional attitude and be entrepreneurial within a self-selected (network) organisation.

Integrated Digital Marketing (Thailand)
During this minor you will learn how to develop a solid digital marketing strategy. You will be able to further strengthen your creative skills and develop new hands-on technical skills. The minor is offered at our campus in Bangkok (Thailand); a creative hotspot located in a region where two thirds of the world population lives. 

Year 4:
focus on your chosen specialisation or broaden your knowledge in the field of media. You will follow a 42-week internship and work for a company operating in the industry

Entry Requirements


3-yr route: Three A-Levels (CCC) and three GCSEs (C or above) in six different subjects
4-yr route: 2 A/S Levels and 4 GCSEs. or relevant BTEC Level 3 Diploma

3-year route: Six passes at Leaving Certificate including 2 at H5. Min 350 points
4-yr route: Five passes at Leaving Cert (minimum 200 points) OR relevant QQi/FETAC Level 5.
