Programme profile

This programme covers hospitality, gastronomy, catering, events, human resource, marketing, sales and finance. You will work on assignments from real companies from the first year. You often do this in small groups with guidance from lecturers with relevant practical experience. You will learn to adapt your strategies and ideas and develop skills such as leadership, cooperation and presentation.

You will also work in our own four-star hotel to experience how practice works, but where you will also learn to think strategically at an management level and conduct research. On the one hand you will learn theory about business management, for example, and on the other hand you will taste the most delicious wines during a wine class. In the third year you choose two international minors that suit you.

You will finish the programme with a paid internship of 10 months which enlarges your chances of getting a job and you could start working immediately. We have agreements with more than 300 companies in the Netherlands and abroad. Dynamic businesses who are eager to work with you.

Throughout the programme, you will be exposed to practical tasks in a hotel environment. You will start in the operational levels (first year) and work yourself up to be a manager of a department (third year). This way, you will gain good knowledge of the skills and responsibilities required from all levels of staff in the hospitality sector.

A further attractive component of the programme is that you will have the opportunity to study (and work) at other universities in the Stenden University group, in South Africa, Qatar, Bali and Thailand.

There is a three-year programme also available

First Year: In Semester 1 you will learn how to approach guests, ICT, cultural differences, evaluating the experiences of guests, complaint settlement, and so on. Second & Third Year: In this phase you can specialise and put gained knowledge into practice through electives, joining courses on Stenden campuses across the world or through practical work experience.
