Programme profile

What causes diseases? How can they be diagnosed and prevented? By integrating knowledge from the molecular level with what happens in the body, our programme teaches you to study the human body and homeostasis both as a whole and as an independent system. The knowledge through this programme can provide the basis to create new tools and methods to improve the diagnosis of diseases and develop effective new drugs.

This programme gives you a broad education, from chemistry and medical biochemistry, to cell and human biology, anatomy, genetics, immunology, microbiology, molecular biology, pharmacology, physiology, infection biology, epidemiology and the biomedical basis of diseases.

Programme content

During your first year, you study basic courses in biology and chemistry, in order to acquire the necessary knowledge for continued studies and you will get good basic knowledge of how the body of a healthy person works. During your second year, you will study various disease onsets/occurrences, and during your third year you will study how drugs are used to cure diseases. You finish the programme with a final thesis project, which can be carried out either at an academic institution or a pharmaceutical company, in Sweden or abroad..
