Programme profile

This programme provides you with strong skills in software development and network technologies. You will learn how to develop applications for different platforms. From the start of the 1st semester, you will learn to see the technology in a broader context so that you will be better able to apply it in practice. During the programme, you will also learn how to develop new services and products as well as learn how to adapt the technology so that it can be applied in a business setting. You will have the opportunity to work with advanced information and communications technologies enabling new applications based on Internet, mobile and broadcast (radio & TV) platforms.

You will gain a profound understanding of the technologies and their potential, and you will learn how to apply technology in practice through analysis and development of innovative services, applications and solutions that target specific user needs. The education is interdisciplinary. You will get an advanced technical understanding of software and network technologies combined with understanding of users, creativity, economic theory, organsational theory and management. You will learn about the social, commercial and ethical frameworks for technology use, and you will become abreast of the latest developments in a global perspective.

Year 1: Project-oriented Problem Based Learning; Object-oriented Programming; Mathematics ; Project: Conceptual Design of an ICT Application; Requirements Specification, Systems Design and User Involvement; Project: System Development and User Interaction

Year 2: IT in Distributed Organisations; Computer networks and the Internet; Distributed Systems; Project: Distributed Systems and Communities; Communication and Media Technologies; Economics; Linear Algebra and Data Mining; Project: Communications and Media Technologies

Year 3: IT-supported Communication; network and Application Security; Databases; Project: Application Development and Security; next Generation networks; Technology and Society; Business Law; Final Project


The university offers a related Masters programme, taught through English, in the following area:

Entry Requirements

General Certificate of Education (with examination in 8 subjects where at least 3 are A-levels, alternatively 2 A-levels + 2 AS-levels. Subjects to include Maths, Physics and Chemistry

Scottish Students are required to have a SQC with 2 Advanced Highers and at least 4 Highers. Subjects to include Maths, Chemistry and Physics.

Six subjects at Leaving Certificate including at least two 2 at H5. Subjects to include Maths, Physics and Chemistry
