Programme profile
Leisure activities are more than just a pastime. They can also indirectly provide health improvements, social cohesion in neighbourhoods and sustainable development in cities or regions. What effect does leisure have on your well-being, and how can it contribute towards social participation in a problem neighbourhood? What is needed for a talented sportswoman or musician to develop into a real sports star or successful musician? The leisure expert explores these concepts through a multidisciplinary and research-based approach. As a leisure expert you investigate all kinds of issues concerning leisure and its impact on people and society. You consider and research from a multidisciplinary perspective, combining diverse areas such as sociology, psychology, economics, marketing and philosophy.
In the first year, the multidisciplinary foundation for the programme is established and you are introduced to leisure sciences and research methods. The semesters are organised thematically. In the first semester the accent is on how leisure time is spent, in the second semester it is on the organisation of leisure. In the second and third year you deepen your knowledge on leisure activities and organisation of leisure and choose a specialisation. Two of the modules take place at Tilburg University.
