Founded in 1361, the University of Pavia is one of the oldest universities in Europe.Pavia is a Research University, with some 23,000 students, offering a wide variety of disciplinary and interdisciplinary teaching organized in nine faculties: Economics, Pharmacy, Law, Engineering, Literature & Philosophy, Medicine & Surgery, Science (Mathematics, Physics Chemistry, Biology and natural Science), Political Science and Musicology.

The Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Pavia has excellent clinical and research institutes. The range of medical care it offers extends from overall diagnostics to highly specialized and complex treatments. A large number of medical therapies and complicated surgical procedures, especially in the field of transplantation (bone marrow, heart, lungs and other) are performed in the clinical structures associated to the Faculty.
