In this progamme, you will learn to understand the role of culture in people’s everyday lives. Culture refers to the way people learn to value, believe, behave and express themselves. It plays a decisive role in how global developments are experienced at the local level. Are you interested in cultures in other parts of the world? Or do you want to understand better what's happening right around the corner? Either way, anthropology will give you a new perspective on the world around you.
You’ll learn to study how global developments are experienced locally, by taking an insider’s perspective. You will investigate local reactions to global developments, and look at how and why they differ so much in different parts of the world. By comparing different societies and cultural phenomena, you’ll learn to understand the world from other persons’ perspectives. Several Bachelor’s courses will help you to prepare yourself for your future possibilities on the labour market.
How are global developments commented upon in street language or rap? What role do past colonial relations play in the state of current segregation in US cities? Why do young people in Russia choose to be active in Soviet-inspired youth organisations? What role do Indian soap operas play in the emancipation of lower class women? Why do Middle Eastern youth choose to play different computer games than their peers in the USA?
These kinds of anthropological research questions produce new, exciting and inspiring knowledge, which will make you realise that what you think is ‘normal’ might actually be quite unusual from another person’s perspective
Entry Requirements
Three A-levels (CCC, or above) and three GCSEs
Six passes at Leaving Certificate inc two at H5 and a minimum of 350 points
